As a nation, we have long acknowledged the critical importance of deep, conceptual understanding of academic language as a cornerstone of student achievement. Yet, despite this recognition, our collective practices and systemic efforts have not consistently aligned with these aspirations. The persistent discrepancy between what we know and what we collectively do continues to impact students’ ability to access, comprehend, and engage with complex academic content within and across disciplines.
